Banigo Tasks Youth Against Pipeline Vandalism
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has called on militant youth vandalising pipelines in the Niger Delta to sheathe their sword and embrace the truce initiated by the Federal Government.
She has also called on stakeholders to negotiate for lasting solution to the issue of endemic poverty and poor infrastructural development in the region and work towards upgrading the capital base of Port Harcourt like that of Abuja and Lagos, to equate it as truly the Industrial hub of Nigeria.
Banigo, in a statement by her Press Secretary, Paul Damgbor, yesterday, said the continuous bombardment of oil facilities in the region is inimical to economic, environmental and human survival as the water, land and the entire ecosystem are being polluted and destroyed.
The deputy governor noted that although most of the vandalism being done to oil facilities was perpetuated outside Rivers State, parents and guardians across the Niger Delta region must prevail on their children and wards to shun acts that would impede on the actualization of peace and sustainable development in the area.
She emphasized the need for an aggressive, pragmatic and holistic development master plan that would transform the lives of the people and create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the area, pointing out that militancy and youth restiveness would be greatly reduced when the people of the region are gainfully engaged.
