BEDC Explains Power Supply Fluctuation
The management of
Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc (BEDC), has said that with a drop in the daily allocation of about 129 megawatts of electricity, out of the 1,175 national power generation, there is little the compant could do to ensure stable power supply to its customers in Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti States.
The Managing Director of BEDC, Mrs Funke Osibodu, disclosed this at an interactive session with newsmen, Friday, at the headquarters of the company.
The Managing Director said the drop in the nation’s output from the previous 3,000 megawatts to 1,175 megawatts was as a result of vandalism of power facilities, especially through puncturing of the gas pipeline in the Niger Delta region of the country.
Osibodu explained that Nigeria needed to generate over 8,500 megawatts of electricity to have a relatively stable power supply.
She said, for her company to satisfy its consumers, it would need not less than 1,400 megawatts of electricity.
The BEDC boss further stated that against the backdrop of complaints arising from billing, the company has developed a full calculator that has the capacity to give a rough estimate of what a customer consumed in a particular household unit within a particular period.
She said the aim of the initiative was to properly address the controversy generated by either underestimation or overestimation of customers’ bill.
