Re-Run Polls: Ex-Dep Gov Urges Maturity Among Politicians
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has called on politicians in the state to show some level of maturity and decorum during the forth-coming state and national assembly re-run elections.
Ikuru, who said this in an interview with newsmen during his 50th birthday celebration in Port Harcourt, also described the Governor Nyesom Wike – led administration as one of the best, since the creation of Rivers State.
The former deputy governor said that leadership is from God and no one should intimidate people because he wants to be a leader.
He predicted that the rerun polls will be peaceful with one man, one vote, and called on the electorate not to feel intimidated by the utterances of some politicians.
He said that the number of projects executed within the last eight months has shown Wike as one of the best in the state.
Meanwhile, the Bishop Diocese of Niger Delta, Rt. Rev. Ralph Ebirien, says Wike needs the support of all and sundry to rebuild the state.
The cleric, who said this in his sermon at the 50th birthday celebration of Engr. Tele Ikuru, said that the task of rebuilding Rivers State cannot be left to Wike alone, and promised to mobilize the church to support the governor’s effort at bringing back the lost glory of the state.
Ebirien described the political ascendancy of Ikuru as an act of God, and called on him to use the 50th birthday celebration as an opportunity to ask for mercy from God.
