Anti-Graft War: Be Fair, Firm, Prelate Urges FG
The Methodist Church, Nigeria, has advised the Federal Government against selective prosecution of the war against corruption in the country.
The Prelate of the Church, Dr. Samuel Emeka Kanu Uche, who said this in an interview with newsmen at Banhan Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Archdiocese of Port Harcourt in the Rivers State capital, during an investiture ceremony, said that there should be no sacred cows on the war against corruption in the country.
The Prelate also said that President Muhammadu Buhari must not shield any member of his party found to be corrupt from prosecution, stressing that anything other than this, will send wrong signals to the international community.
According to him, Nigerian money stashed away in foreign banks must be retrieved and returned to the country with a view to reinvesting it into the economy to create jobs for the unemployed.
The Prelate also stressed the need for members of legislative Houses and the executive arms of government across the country to cut down their salaries and allowances to save funds for development purposes.
He said that the over 34 persons who were conferred with knighthoods by the Church were found worthy in character, adding that it was also a way of appreciating their contributions to the growth and development of the Methodist Church, both in Rivers State and across the country.
According to him, the conditions for knighthood in the Methodist Church include integrity, faithfulness to God, non membership of secret cults and a husband of one wife, amongst others.
He advised the new knights to ensure that they maintain the conditions with a view to ensuring the growth of the church.
In his sermon, the Bishop, Diocese of Ayedun, Rt. Rev. S.O. Osundina, charged the new knights to be faithful to God, stressing that their new position now avails them the opportunity to help in the propagation of the gospel of Christ.
