Samsung’ll Keep Re-Defining Mobile Telephony – CEO
The Managing Director of Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr Brovo Kim, has said that the company would not relent in re-defining mobile telephony with innovative technology.
Kim gave the pledge in a statement obtained by newsmen in Lagos.
He said that distance and location were no longer barriers in communication, noting that people could keep in contact, share photos, enjoy music and videos anytime, anywhere.
Kim said that Samsung had unveiled its most advanced smart phones into the Nigerian market to redefine the experience of telephone users in the country.
He said that successors to the Galaxy S5 which was released in 2014, the Galaxy S6 edge and S6 duos, were blends of premium components with the most advanced Samsung technology.
The managing director said that the phones were imbued with incredibly intelligent cameras and had set a new industry standard for design, craftsmanship and performance.
“Smartphone technology has transformed dreams of the future into reality.
“Our potential for innovation is unlimited and when combined with our dreams, there is endless scope for the future to quickly become the present.
“The new Galaxy S6 edge and S6 duos highlight the most refined phone experience ever by combining the latest technology that users expect from Samsung’s Galaxy series.
“Samsung is commitment to fulfilling its brand promise of inspiring the world and creating the future by bringing new and outstanding innovations to the doorstep of consumers.
“Our innovative technology has adequately captured customers’ aspirations and desires,” he said.
Mr Emmanouil Revmatas, the Director of Hand-Held Products for Samsung Electronics West Africa, described the new range of Galaxy series as testament to Samsung’s leadership and innovation in the smartphone market.
Revmatas said that the Galaxy S6 edge and S6 duos featured the best displays in a smartphone, along with the best camera and best build quality.
He said that the devices were a blend of beauty and power comparable to a piece of fine jewelry, a premium accessory.
“We have been pushing the boundaries of designs and user experience of smartphones, bringing new and meaningful innovations to consumers by developing best-in-class products to meet their ever changing needs.”

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
