New NUJ Secretariat Opens April 27
The ultra modern secretariat of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), built by the River State Government has been slated for commissioning on April 27, 2015.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Ibim Semenitari, who disclosed this during an inspection of the project, said the building will be formally handed over to the union after the commissioning of the project by the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi.
Semenitari, who led a team of officials of the ministry and NUJ during the inspection, charged the contractors to fast tract the completion of the projects to meet the target date of hand over of keys of the property to the ministry billed for Thursday next week.
The commissioner tasked the contractors on the completion of all components of the projects, such as the installation of the lift elevator, furniture and other fittings.
The commissioner also tasked the Rivers State Council of the NUJ on the effective and efficient management of the facilities when the project is finally handed over.
In his remarks, the CEO of Elohim consult, the contractor handling the project, Engr Peter Ejente, said the project was at 95% completion, and assured to deliver on specification, while complaining of lack of funds to fast track project delivery.
The chairman of the Rivers State Council of the NUJ, Mr Opaka Dokubo, expressed satisfaction with the state of completion of the project and thanked the Rivers State government for building a state-of –the art secretariat for the NUJ.
The chairman also assured that the facilities would be properly managed when the union duly takes possession of it.
