Kidnap: Rivers Police Nab 3, Free Victim
The police in Rivers on Wednesday rescued the Branch Manager of First City Monument Bank in Choba, Mr Standfast Barnabas who was abducted on December 13.
Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that Barnabas was rescued on December 16 at Rumuola area of Port Harcourt.
He said during the rescue operation, “three kidnappers were fatally wounded while one was injured adding that the rescue followed a tip off.
“The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the safe rescue of the kidnap victim, Police operatives stormed the kidnappers’ den in Rumuola where Barnabas was kept. On sighting the police, the kidnappers started shooting. Fortunately, three of them were fatally wounded due to police superior fire power. One was injured and the one in possession of their operational firearms managed to escape,” he said.
Muhammad added that one locally made pistol was recovered after a search was conducted in the kidnappers hide out.
“The command reassures the people of instant response to tip offs and distress calls,” he said.
Muhammad also urged the people to be security conscious and report any person or group capable of undermining the existing public peace and security to the nearest police station.
