NTA, Others May Miss Digital Broadcasting Deadline
As the July 31, 2015
deadline for analogue broadcasting system draws closer, the Nigerian Television Authority and others stand a huge risk unless something urgent is done.
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) Mr James Agada, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
He said that by July 31, 2015 all analoque TV transmission in the country will cease unless they make proper adjustment before then.
Agada, hinted that the innovation would affect also state TV stations and several others will cease to broadcast signals that can be directly received on television sets and that the July date has been set as Nigeria’s due date, adding that the world is transiting to digital TV broadcasting.
According to Nigeria, the planned digitalization process would cost the Federal Government up to N700 billion to purchase decoders that would connect TV stations to the digital system
To allay the fears, he said computer warehouse was in partnership with other sister companies that could provide an alterative means.
He told our correspondent that they would partner a company known as SEs satellite as well as a tier 3 (three) data centre that has the capacity to provide hosting services for storage and management of content and signals.
According to him, the company and SEs have introduced a service system that would allow any broadcaster to broadcast digital satellite signals that will be received when used in a variety of decoders.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State Government few months ago, has made necessary adjustment that would enable digital broadcasting.
