e-Voting: IT Expert Calls For National Broadband
Stakeholders in the coun
try have been advised to consider the need for a national broadband if they want to actualise and sustain the e-voting system for the country.
The chairman, Publicity, Events and Trade Service Committee, Nigeria Computing Society, Mr Jide Awe, said this while briefing newsmen Wednesday in Lagos.
He said that the national broadband would not only aid in achieving the e-voting system, but will speed up quality network service.
Awe explained that the system must be on ground unless the country is not ready for the electronic voting process.
He explained that projects of such standing, needed the best attention following its believed usefulness to the country’s electoral system.
The IT expert hinted that there was need for sufficient cyber details due to the fact that the internet would be the main source of application.
It was learnt that part of the delay in the permanent voter card registration was not unconnected to the inability of the industry players to provide better equipment that could facilitate the process.
Awe hinted that product management, logistics are the likely factors that will confront the system unless some pragmatic steps are taken.
He expressed belief that the country has all the available resources to guarantee a smooth e-voting system, judging from the rate of internet dealings in the country.
He added that it would be important for sensitisation of the citizens since the process would involve the use of mobile cell phones and computers.
Meanwhile, he has stressed the importance of the national broadband, lamenting that poor network was still a problem in the country.
