Phone Penetration: NCC Confirms 33m Active Lines
Following the current
Mobile penetration into the country, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has indicated a growing telephone of about 33,282,003 active lines in the country.
The chairman, phone and Allied Products Dealers Association (PAPDAN), Mr Iyke Nwosu, said this at a public function in Lagos during the week preparatory to this year’s phone exhibition Nigeria titled “PEN 2014.”
He said that the number also represent about 94.42 per cent teledensity across the country by August 2014, hinting that Nigeria also recorded 72,566,791 Internet subscribers within the same period.
Nwosu said that the event which would hold between December 2nd – 6th 2014 in University of Lagos, will also feature exhibitions of latest technologies and co-locate events at the annual gathering of Nigeria mobile ecosystem.
In this regard, the PAPDAN boss, noted that the Association has become catalyst in growing mobile telephone ecosystem in Nigeria.
The Tide, gathered that the Asscoaition has more than 5,000 members, and is currently employing more than 25,000 people across the mobile value chain.
According to him, members of the Association recorded in excess of four million units of monthly sales of diverse handsets and devices.
He further hinted that his members were the first to introduce dual-sim phones, adding that this phone type has taken the upper hands in the market today.
On the issue of phone choice, he said consumers attention are drifting towards Android devices that enables them to multitask at the same time.
He also stressed that phone users still insist on established global brands, adding that several newer players are recording impressive performance.
