of Umuosunu of Ibaa, in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State Eze K.E. Nyenke has called on Companies engaged in oil and gas services to ensure proper measures are taken to secure Pipeline Facilities to avoid spillages and vandalisation in the Niger Delta region.
Eze Nyenke made the call in an interview with The Tide, at a meeting between Total E $P Company and Ibaa/Rumuji Communities held in Port Harcourt, over that Ova Gas Pipeline Project being the company in the area.
He said the meeting was called to reach agreement on Memoranda of understand (MoU) between the company and the communities on the gas pipeline project that would cut across four communities in the area.
Eze Nyenke expressed worried that, the communities concern was how the company can protect the pipeline from vandalisation and spillage for safety of the people in the area.
According to him, providing sustainable developmental projects for the people were not enough, if the facilities were not protected from endangering the lives of the people and environmental degradation.
He called on the company to maintain and comply to any agreement reached so far, before commencing work in the area.
Also speaking, the Price of Rumuoji Community, Price Gift Elechi thanked Total E & P Company for its commitment to ensure that there was an agreement between the company and the communities over the gas Pipeline project in the area.
He said the Total E & P handled acquired quite a large portion of land from Umuaja down to Rumuoji to hook up gas project plant for the federal government.
According to him, the project known as “Northern Onshore Pipeline” occupied large hectare of land which will deny lots of people from the area farmland.
Elechi called on the company to ensure that compensation that would equate with the farm land for the people’s sources of livelihood are paid.
Elechi advised the people of the area to have good relationship with the company, as the company was ready to work in partnership with the communities.

Importers, market traders, and supermarket operators have therefore, been directed to immediately cease all dealings in these items and to notify their supply chain partners to halt transactions involving prohibited products.
The agency emphasized that failure to comply will attract strict enforcement measures, including seizure and destruction of goods, suspension or revocation of operational licences, and prosecution under relevant laws.
The statement said “The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over the growing incidence of smuggling, sale, and distribution of regulated food products such as pasta, noodles, sugar, and tomato paste currently found in markets across the country.
“These products are expressly listed on the Federal Government’s Customs Prohibition List and are not permitted for importation”.
NAFDAC also called on other government bodies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS) Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Shippers Council, and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), to collaborate in enforcing the ban on these unsafe products.
