Govt Cautions Warlords Against Instigating Crisis

As inter-cult related clashes continue to heighten tension in parts of Rivers State, the state government has cautioned the various warlords against plunging the state into another round of crisis.
The State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi, who said this at a thanksgiving service to make the 2014 International Youth Day at the St. Paul’s Anglican church, Garrison Bus stop, Port Harcourt, also urged Christians to pray against distractions in the state.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi, warned that war-lords must sheathe their swords in the interest of peace and development of the state.
He also advised the youth against being used by desperate politicians to achieve their goals. He urged parents to live up to their responsibilities by ensuring that their children are brought up in the fear of the Lord.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has released a programme towards the celebration of this year’s International Youth Day in the state.
According to the Commissioner for Youth development, Sir Owene Wonodi, there will be a visit to the Rehabilitation centre, Iriebe to encourage the inmates of the centre while a seminar will hold in the afternoon today.
The grandfinale will hold tomorrow with a quiz and essay competition.
The Commissioner urged the public to participate in the programme.
Earlier during the service, Rev. Canon Kingsley Ogbonda urged Christians to be on guard as the coming of the Lord is at hand.
He said that, the outbreak of some deadly diseases and other natural disasters are all signs of the end time.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
