Team Nigeria at the on
going International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Championships in Dubai, has continued winning streak with an additional gold and a silver medals.
The recent medals has made it four gold, one silver and one bronze medal won by Nigeria at the championship.
Samuel Ekeoma, the Technical Director, Nigeria Para-powerlifting Federation (NPPF), told newsmen from Dubai that Abdulazeez Ibrahim clinched the fourth gold for Nigeria.
Ekeoma said that Ibrahim lifted 235kg in the male 97kg weight category to win the gold.
He added that Loveline Obiji won the silver with a lift of 142.5kg in the female 86kg weight category.
Yakubu Adesokan won the first gold medal for Nigeria after breaking his own world record of 178kg in 46kg.
Adesokan had earlier set the record at the 2012 London Olympic Games by lifting 181kg in the same weight category.
Esther Oyema won the second gold after she had also set a new world record in the 55kg category.
The new record erased her previous record of 122kg she set in 2013 Asian Open Championships in Malaysia with a lift of 125kg.
The third gold was won by Ijeoma Ihurobiem in the female 73kg weight category, while Anthony Ulonnam won the bronze in the male 54kg.
The director expressed the hope that Team Nigeria would not relent in their effort to win more medals for the country before the end of the championships.
Our correspondent reports that Nigeria is being represented at the championships by eight male and five female.
The competition will end on April 11.
