RIMA Embarks On Feedback Mission …Visits 17 LGAs

Microfinance Agency (RIMA) has embarked on a two-weeks feedback mission, to assess the impact of the government’s soft-loans given to entrepreneurs across the state.
The mission is the first phase of 2013 feedback investigation covering 17 local Government Areas in the state.
Leading the fact finding team RIMA Magazine sub-editor, Ms Cynthia Osuamkpe, said the visit was also aimed at finding out the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in their businesses and the possible solutions to these challenges.
She noted that the agency’s target under the professional leadership of the Executive Chairman, Mr. Innocent Iyala Harry was to improve on the achievements of RIMA in alleviating poverty and empowering the people.
The president of KomKom Business Co-perative Soceity Oyigbo, Rev. Chukwuma Syril Johnson commended the state government and RIMA for helping the poor, adding that this was the co-operatives first time of accessing government’s help in their businesses.
Johnson who runs a chemist, noted that the training given to the society members has even exposed them to be diligent in running their business, adding that the co-operative strategised to ensure a stress-free repayment pattern.
He said the society has set a target of buying 200 plots of land for cassava farm and bakery, saying the sincerity of RIMA’s loan has restored the people’s belief in the government.
Another leaders, Chief Duru Christian of United Obama farmers, Oyibo lauded RIMA for the loan but pleaded that the loan should be increased to benefit medium businesses, adding that the problem of using his farm to pose for EFCC by previous council administration dashed his hope on government which RIMA has restored.
Ekififia Nyimeta co-operative society president in Ekporo, Eleme, Chief Mrs Comfort Lekwe told The Tide that the loan increased her business as she added the sale of fruits to her engine oil business.
The secretary of Dumkiisi Kira co-operative soecity in Tai LGA, Mr Philip Oodee said the loan was a serious help to his liquor business, adding that an increase to N100,000 would do more magic.
Oodee called for more sensitisation by RIMA in the community, adding that this would change the mentality of some people who think that government loan are not refundable. He also said that this mentality was responsible for diversion of fund by some entrepreneurs which exposed them to difficulty in repayment.
A member of DA-Nwinte Bera farmers co-operative Society, Barieleen Abe applauded RIMA for helping her establish two businesses at the same time stating that “I used the loan to buy four wheelbarrows for hiring which yielded the gain I used in opening my roasted plantain business. Today I am still hiring and doing my plantain business and have also completed the repayment of the loan.”
The President of Ekwe-ene Co-operative, Usokun, Mr. Emmanuel Sampson said the loan helped him to buy more fridges which expanded the drinks business in Oderi hotel, Degema.
He noted that RIMA repayment strategy was not stressful, adding that there is the need for RIMA to make available individual loans to faithful businessmen and women to the tune of N300-N500,000.00
