Lawmaker Attributes PDP Crisis To Disrespect For Party Constitution
The Deputy House Leader, Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Bello Muhammed, has attributed the current crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to lack of respect for the party’s constitution.
Muhammed said this in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Abuja.
He advised that leaders of the party should not allow their personal interest to override that of the party which would be against the essence of democracy.
He noted that the party constitution was supreme and above interest of any vested group, saying that “if we must play politics, we must obey the rules. `
Muhammed said that the founding fathers of the party had made it to be a “united, purposeful and peaceful party that can unite Nigerians for better development irrespective of tribe and religious differences.”
The legislator noted that unlike other parties, the PDP should not be allowed to become a “one-man show” and warned that the PDP should not deviate from the ideals of internal party democracy for which it had been known.
He observed that over the years, members and supporters of the party had been very loyal to the party in spite of the numerous internal problems.
Mohammed attributed the loyalty of members to the party to their love for the development of the party and progress for the country.
He said that the Sokoto State chapter of PDP observed the current challenges of the party when they were taking roots and did everything possible to call attention of stakeholders to the implication of leaving these problems unattended but expressed the regret that not much was done to attend to them.
