Union Charges FLT Exco On Team Work
The Chairman of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) in Rivers State, Comrade Jonah Jumbo has enjoined the newly elected executive of the Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT) Onne unit to work as a team in line with the Maritime Constitution.
They have also been charged to ensure that they become a stronger unit to boost the union and the economy of the country.
Comrade Jumbo gave the charge at the inauguration of the FLT, Onne Unit executive at the Ogu Multi-Purpose Hall in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area on Wednesday.
He said as a formidable unit, they should create Job Opportunities for their members, pay their union dues as at when due, work together as one family, shun gossiping and help ensure the growth of the nation’s economy.
According to him, the union which is the umbrella body of all seamen, water Transport Owners, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and seafarers assured them that they are ready to support the unit at anytime and further enjoined them not to sell any Job opportunity as well as respect constituted authorities.
Also speaking, the state secretary of the union, Comrade Eze Robert said they should be proud to be members of the union, regard forward ever, backward never as their watchword as a way of progress and charged all hands to be on deck.
Earlier, the chairman of the screening committee and member of NEC, Comrade Oron Oboya said FLT unit has 83 persons registered with 78 members present while five were absent, pointing out that 10 persons collected forms for the various offices in the unit.
In his acceptance speech, the elected chairman, comrade Grandville Atubokiki Michael thanked the state officers and other members for making the occasion, grand, assuring that the confidence reposed on him would be sustained, soliciting for their support and co-operation to move the unit to greater heights.
Also in the cabinet were comrades Oluka Oluka-Vice Chairman, Ubokulom-Awajiogakwu Jonah-secretary and Samuel George-Organising Secretary among others.
