NDDC Procures 100 Tractors To Boost Agric
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it has procured 100 tractors to enhance mechanised farming and boost food production in the Nigeri Delta region.
The Commission’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Iditoye Abosede, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
The statement quoted the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr Christian Oboh as saying that the tractors would be distributed equitably to the nine-member states that make up the commission.
‘’The procurement of 100 tractors is in line with the transformation agenda of Mr President to boost the agricultural sector as well as create employment for youths.
‘’These tractors will support Ministries of Agriculture in the nine states of the region to boost food production and food security.’’
He said that the Commission would partner with the Governments of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta states to establish fish farms. The statement also said that the Commission would soon inaugurate 11 completed hostel blocks out of the 18 being built in various institutions in the region.
‘’The building of hostels in various institutions of higher learning in the nine states is a programme that the current board has been seriously pursuing to its completion.
‘’When we came on board, these projects were in a very bad shape and nearly all the reports of various agencies criticised the NDDC for it “But I’m glad that 11 of the projects are ready for use,’’ Oboh said in the statement.
The Managing Director said that 600 metres span-bridge and side drains in Akwa Ibom state was ready for use.
