RIVCAS Traces Success To ICT
The Rivers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS), Rumuola, has attributed part of its achievements to the introduction of functional Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the institution.
The Chairman, 6th Governing Council of RIVCAS, Dr Soba M. Wilcox, stated this while presenting her address at the occasion of get-together party in honour of the college’s first set of Higher National Diploma (HND) Graduands for National Youth Service on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
Wilcox, noted that the speedy ICT growth in the school, placed it top among others, saying that the school will not play down on ICT development.
In that light, she recalled how the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), through its chairman, Chief Tarila Tebepah donated 200 units of computers with work stations to the school.
According to the chairman, the computer donation as well as a 5 KVA generating set including some engineering gadgets contributed to the speedy ICT development in the school.
She also said that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), contributed in no small measure by its provision of computers with work stations and a solar panel to power the internet server in the college.
The Tide gathered that the ICT development in RIVCAS had attracted some constructive argument, suggesting that ICT should be introduced to even the primary schools as a course so as to meet the challenge of the internet development.
Also speaking, the provost of the school. Dr Hillary Wordu, noted that his school was adhering to the Federal Governments’ Technology Policy, hence the quest for ICT growth.
Wordu, also said that interventionist agencies need to contribute positively in a bid to developing the institutions in order to meet up its mandate of training manpower in the country.
