Gov Orders Probe Of Kaduna Church Burning
Kaduna State Government has ordered an investigation into the burning of a Church in Pambegua, Kubau Local Government Area of the state.
Gov. Mukhtar Yero gave the directive during a visit to the razed Assemblies of God Church in Pambegua.
Yero said that it would be preposterous to point accusing fingers at any individuals or groups as being responsible for the act.
The governor said that the incident was discussed at the State Security Council meeting, adding that he was there to assess the extent of the damage.
He said that the security agents would investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident, and commended the youth for listening to religious, traditional and political leaders in the community by exercising restraints and allowing the law to take its course.
The Governor assured that anyone found wanting would face the wrath of the law.
Receiving the governor, the Superintendent of Assembly of God Church, aminaka District, Rev. Haruna Tutu, said that there was no electricity supply to the Church as at the time of inferno, which took place on Saturday between 2 a.m and 3:20 a.m
He said that the Church had disagreement with some traders, who occupied the shops owned by the church.
He said that the disagreement led to a court case that lasted for three years, but was eventually withdrew for out of court settlement.
Tutu said that the tenants, predominantly fish sellers, initially refused to vacate the shops but after amicable resolution, they moved out and traded their stocks by the roadside.
The 60-year old Church, including 50 bags of maize and other goods were destroyed by the fire.
