Amaechi, Others Hail Harry At 50
Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi and friends of Former Speaker and two-time Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Tonye Harry have eulogised the Kalabari-born legislator on his 50th birthday.
Speaking at a special birthday ceremony held in Government House in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday for the erstwhile speaker, Governor Amaechi said Harry was a dependable friend and loyalist, adding that he contributed to his success as a speaker in the Assembly, and emphasised on the need to be our brother’s keeper.
The Governor stated that he always stood by his friends, “I always try to be truthful to my friends and not to betray them”, and used the occasion to thank the ex-speaker for his contributions to the state and prayed for better years ahead for him and his family.
Earlier, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Otelemaba Amachree prayed God to grant Harry more grace and years ahead.
Rt. Hon Amachree recalled that he and Harry had been friends for over 35 years and thanked God for life over the years.
Also, Former Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Mrs. Titi Oseni described Rt. Hon Harry as a dependable ally.
Oseni lauded the governor for organising the party to celebrate, the legislator noting that, “we are happy to associate with you and your good works”.
In his speech later, Harry expressed immense joy, saying he was short of words for the celebrations in his honour.
According to him, Governor Amaechi has demonstrated love and support, “earnestly, Your Excellency, I don’t know how to thank you,” he submitted.
Harry further remarked, “I can say apart from God, every mileage I made in politics is through Rotimi Amaechi.”
The former speaker said he and his family would ever be grateful to the Governor, friends and good people of the state for the love shown to him during his golden birthday.
