RSG Urges Posting Of Corps Members To Schools
In line with the new posting policy approved by the Federal Government, the Rivers State Government has tasked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state to deploy corps members to the four cardinal sectors of education, health, agriculture and rural infrastructure.
The Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi gave the charge Monday, at the closing ceremony for the Batch ‘B’ 2012 orientation course at Nonwagbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Owene Wonodi, the governor said the state had been working with the policy since its inception, noting that so far, it had proved helpful to the state.
Governor Amaechi stressed the need for principals across the schools in the state to be more receptive to the corps members in order to actualize the policy targets.
In his words, “let me at this point direct all the school principals to be on ground to receive corps members and ensure that they are given appropriate and challenging schedules. You are not to reject them no matter the pressure.”
Describing the people of the state as friendly, accommodating and hospitable, Governor Amaechi urged the corps members to feel free at their places of primary assignment, adding that they should identify and carry out tangible and meaningful community development projects in their various lost Communities in fulfillment of the NYSC Scheme.
While warning the corps members against all vices of truancy, absenteeism, disobedience, lawlessness, and misconduct, the Gov. Amaechi said mediocrity would not be tolerated.
According to him, “ good conduct will be rewarded as usual and of course, government will continue to provide every necessary assistance that would help you actualize the goals of the scheme.”
Also speaking, the coordinator of the NYSC Scheme in the state, Mrs Josephine Okuongbae revealed that apart from corps doctors, paramedics schools particularly, those in the hinter lands to teach the younger ones.
While doctors and paramedics were posted to government Hospitals and Rural Health Centres across the 23 local government Areas of the state lawyers she said were all posted to the State Ministry of Justice, Judiciary and legal Aids Council.
Okuonghae, who commended the corps members on their conduct during the first cardinal programme of the Scheme, implored them to put on the apron of service, humility, discipline, diligence and team spirit at all times through out their service year.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
