Amaechi Charges Private Schools On Teaching Standards …Commissions ESI School,Buses
As a way of ensuring the sustainability of the Early Childhood Care Development Programme of the Empowerment Support Initiative(ESI), Governor Chibuike Amaechi has sued for a partnership between the private sector and civil society groups.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi made the call at Igwuruta Town in Ikwerre Local Government Area yesterday while unveiling the new ESI Nursery School and the new Bus Scheme for women.
Amaechi declared,’’ I believe government and agencies and civil society groups can partner including oil companies to provide these children, whose parents may not be well placed to have free education, well funded by either government or private people and ensure by the end of the day you and I sleep.’’
He reasoned that since government cannot solely shoulder the responsibility of providing quality education, the private sector should support to raise social infrastructure, which he maintained remain a sure path to tackle crime and other social vices in society.
While calling on the programme managers to introduce tuition and primary education, the Governor explained that such measures would help in sustaining their lofty vision adding,’’ no matter how small and that would be geared towards paying salaries and maintenance of the school ‘’.
In her remarks earlier, Founder of the ESI and wife of the Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi said the initiative is geared towards driving and building on the state government’s vision on quality education, which must not be left in the hands of government alone.
Apart from that, she explained that the Early Childhood Programme would drive the state Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) pursuit in education, as he lauded the Governor for being a pillar of support to the programme.
With the success recorded in the Ladies Cabbies Programme, she disclosed that the scheme has decided to venture into a bus scheme to empower womenfolk and thanked all individuals and companies for supporting the organisation.
Dame Amaechi however hinted that body has begun plans to collaborate with the National Youth Service Corp(NYSC) in areas of support and moving the initiative forward.
Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon. Wenendu Amadi pledged the support of the council to the initiative.
He lauded the Dame Amaechi’s initiative and for touching the lives of the less privileged and charged the community to ensure the programme was sustained.
