Amaechism, New Political Ideology For Rivers –Okocha
The Chief of Staff of Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, Sir Tony Okocha, says realising the vision of recreating the political ideology of the State based on equity, good governance and positively impacting the lives of the people would be his priority.
Sir Okocha said this, Monday, at a dinner organised by the Rivers Youth Movement (RYM) to mark his investiture and that of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Statistics and Strategy, Mr. Okechukwu Okirie, as Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of RYM respectively in Port Harcourt.
Describing the ideology as “Amaechism”, Sir Okocha assured that the newly constituted Board of Trustees of RYM would perform well, and urged members of RYM to show understanding and cooperate with them in taking the group to a higher level.
In his speech, the Royal Father of the Day and Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, HRM King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, expressed optimism that Sir Okocha would not only redefine the leadership context but also remake RYM as “a better platform for advancing good governance.”
He called on the youths to make strategic inputs towards repositioning Nigeria for greatness, attributing the agitation for national dialogue to the lack of equity in resource allocation in the nation.
In his speech, chairman of the occasion, Professor Lawrence Igwe of the University of Port Harcourt, lauded Governor Amaechi’s developmental strides in education, health, infrastructure, and other areas, noting that RYM consists of youths drawn from across the State, whose efforts contributed to Governor Amaechi’s success.
Speaking, the Chairman of RYM’s Board of Patrons, Dr Wejinya Weli, expressed hope that Sir Okocha would take RYM to greater height, thanking God for supporting the group in their efforts at ensuring the re-election of Governor Amaechi. He urged Okocha and Okirie to work towards the consolidation of the movement in the 23 local government areas of the State.
Earlier in his welcome address, President General of RYM, Mr. Richard Alete, said the event was aimed at honouring Sir Okocha and Mr. Okirie, who have proved themselves worthy of being saddled with higher responsibilities.
In their separate solidarity speeches, Member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Victoria Nyeche and President of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), Engr. Vincent Furo, praised RYM for its efforts during the campaigns for Governor Amaechi’s re-election, assuring it of their support.
