Kidnapping: Police Nab Soldier, Seven Others
Eight members of a kidnap gang including a soldier attached to the Joint task Force (JTF) in Isiokpo are now helping the Police in Rivers State to unravel their alleged involvement in criminal activities in the state.
The soldier identified as Lance Corporal, Simeon Ishaku and the arrested kidnap suspects, eight car snatching syndicate as well as six member MTN fraudsters who specialise in dupping members of the public huge sums of money are now cooling off their feet in police cell.
Parading the suspects in Port Harcourt, the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Suleman Abba said the suspects’ arrest was in fulfilment of the command’s earlier promises to rid the state of all forms of criminalities.
Mr. Suleman disclosed that the soldier, Lance Coporal Simeon ishaku attached to JTF, Isiokpo and his accomplice were arrested on November 13, 2011 in connection with an alleged attempt to kidnap a sister of a suspect, Mr. Chris Wobodo from Isiokpo.
According to the state Police Commissioner, the kidnappers organised themselves to kidnap once of their own relation and was arrested following a discreet investigations carried by the Police. He said that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
He remarked that the arrested MTN fraudsters had been duping unsuspecting members of the public of huge sums of money in the pretence to be MTN registration personnel.
But luck ran out on them when they were arrested in Oyigbo local government area following a discreet investigation, saying that they had over 100 MTN registration cards in their possession when they were arrested.
Mr. Abba assured members of the public of the command’s effort to protect lives and property and urged residents of the state to avail the Police with useful information that would help them fight crime in the state.
In an interview with suspects, Simeon Ishaku denied being part of the crime, adding that he was on sick leave at his home town in the North when the crime was committed.
However, Mr. Chris Wobodo admitted planning to kidnap his sister, Mrs Esther Maxwell in order to receive N2 million from the husband before he was arrested by the Joint Task Force (JTF).
