PH Zone Consumers Owe PHCN N15bn
Electricity consumers in the Port Harcourt zone of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), are owing the company over N15 billion. The Principal Public Affairs Manager, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC), Mr Obidilli Onuwah who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt, weekend expressed worry that the huge debt profile was negatively affecting the operations of the company in the zone.
He said that the debtor areas include Ahoada, Borikiri, Calabar, Diobu, Eket, Ogoja, Onne, Oyigbo, Rumuodomaya, Rumuola, Uyo and Yenagoa.
Consequently, Onuwah noted that the PHCN had commenced mass disconnection of debtors in the affected business units with effect from last week in order to shore up its revenue.
He further noted that all government agencies, commercial and residential customers owing the company may have their services withdrawn.
In another development, the on-going re-conducting of the Afam Power Plant is to be concluded soon.
The PHEDC image maker who disclosed this to The Tide in Port Harcourt in a telephone interview said, over 90 per cent of the rehabilitation job had been achieved as the contractors have only Nzimiro and one other part in Port Harcourt to conclude the entire job.
He restated that the rehabilitation would boost power supply in the state and commended the people of the state for their patience.
