Eid-El-Fitri: Gov Amaechi, CAN President Hail Muslims
The Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has urged Muslims in the country to further consolidate on the peace and unity of Nigeria as they celebrate this year’s Eid -El Fitri.
In a statement by his spokesman, Mr. David Iyofor, yesterday, Governor Amaechi congratulated Muslims on the completion of their fast, adding that the sallah celebrations call for reflection on the state of our nation, and how to further strengthen our union.
“As Nigerians we must exhibit oneness to be able to stand strong together through diverse difficulties and challenges, and achieve our goals as a nation. We must focus on the things that bind us together. This is why we celebrate together.”
“I congratulate and rejoice with all our Muslim brothers and sisters. I believe that your prayers during the Ramadan fast would be for the ultimate good of our country,” Amaechi was quoted to have said.
He urged Muslims in the spirit of the Eid-El-Fitri celebrations to strive to live in harmony with their counterparts of other religions and be good citizens of the country.
The Governor further assured Muslims in Rivers State of continued support and wished them a merry Eid-El Fitri celebration.
In a related development, the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has congratulated Muslims for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
In a goodwill message in Lagos, yesterday, Oritsejafor urged Muslims to take advantage of the 30 days spiritual rejuvenation to imbibe the true Islamic teachings which include charity and compassion for fellow human beings.
He also urged Muslims to take advantage of the season to pray for peaceful co-existence of Nigerians and the unity of the nation.
“I congratulate all Muslims in Nigeria, while I urge them to take advantage of the just-concluded 30-day spiritual exercise, when prayers were offered to God for the peace and progress of the country, and live in peace with all other Nigerians irrespective of their faith,” he said.
