Athletes In High Spirit At RSUST Camp
About 2,000 athletes
camped at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) following congestion at the Games Village in Choba have lauded the Rivers State Government for responding to their plight.
Most of the athletes from Imo, Lagos and Ondo Sates told The Tidesports that they are quickly settling down and are in good spirits to win more medals for their states.
A golf player from Enugu State, Tobias Nnamani said the RSUST camp is cleaner and closer to their games venue, saying “we lost most of our matches when we were at Choba camp”.
Nnamani further stated that, “I wish they can extend the festival because here in RSUST we are enjoying ourselves.”
Emmanuel Onumajuru another golf player from Imo State said so far the RSUST Camp is the best considering the level of facilities provided including security and feeding.
He disclosed that they came into the camp three days ago but have enjoyed a cleaner environment and better security.
Expressing happiness for their relocation, Harcart Jackson, a young wrestler from Ondo State told Tidesports that the camp is more pleasant as there are enough water, light and good food for them.
A Kungfu coach for Lagos contingent, Femi Ajayi observed that the RSUST camp is far better than the Games Village considering the space and environment.
His words, “in the first week of our carnival we stressed but now we are enjoying our stay and not intimidated anylonger.”
Coach Ajayi argued that had it been they had conducive accommodation initially they would not have lost the gold medal in Kungfu.
He said the state only managed to win two medals including one silver bronze,” but we are hoping that kickboxing will give us the gold we deserve,” he added.

HYPREP Tightens Security At Project Sites
Following the rupture of the ground tank of its water facility in Ebubu Community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has tightened security across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
HYPREP, which dropped this hint in a statement signed by its Head of Communications, Dr Enuolare Mba-Nwigoh, said the Project Coordinator, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey had given the directive for security to be tightened across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
Mba-Nwigoh noted that the tightening of security across the project sites has become necessary to forestall interference with the facilities.
He further disclosed that following the rupture of the ground tank of the Ebubu water facility, a team led by HYPREP’s Director of Technical Services, Prof Damian-Paul Aguiyi has visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation, stressing that the water facility has been cordoned off for public safety.
The statement indicated that following the incident, HYPREP has henceforth barred non-project personnel and non-facility staff from gaining access into any of its active project sites in Ogoniland without authorisation.
While appealing to residents of Ebubu Community and the public to remain calm, the Head of Communications assured them that the Project is taking prompt steps to restore water to the community, saying, the cause of the unfortunate incident is being investigated.
He equally noted that the Chief Security Officer of HYPREP has been directed to immediately tighten security across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
The statement said HYPREP is deeply concerned about the incident, stressing that despite the setback, the Project reiterates its commitment to delivering sustainable cleanup in Ogoniland.
