Abe Explains Re-Appointment As Rivers SSG
Secretary to the State Government, Hon Magnus Ngei Abe , has made clarification on speculations about his recent re-appointment and its implications on his ambition to run for the Senate.
In a meeting he held with the staff of his office, yesterday in Port Harcourt, Hon Abe explained that his re-instatement as Secretary to the State Government was as a result of the postponement of the party primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and subsequent directive of the state Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who reserved the exclusive constitutional right to appoint and re-appoint whosoever he deemed fit and proper for any relevant office in the civil service.
The directive on his re-instatement he further stated, would subsist pending the announcement of a new date for the conduct of the party primaries when he is expected to stand down to join the race to the Senate for the Rivers State –East senatorial district.
He again reaffirmed his commitment to contest the Rivers South-East senatorial seat, pointing out that it was in continuation of a vision to carry the collective dream of Rivers people for the realisation of a better state and society, which the state governor has continued to advocate and promote.
The Secretary to the State Government, who solicited the continued support and co-operation of his staff, reminded them of the challenges ahead, especially the commemoration of the third anniversary of the present administration in the state slated to commence next week.
He disclosed that as part of the programme of events for the third anniversary celebration, the state government would be launching a pet project the governor had christened “60-in-60 communities in 60 days.
According to him, the 60-in-60 project will be the culmination of an event in which 60 designated communities in the state for 60 days in succession, would receive full complements of an ultra-modern health centre each, equipped with facilities and medical personnel.
He seized the opportunity to emphasise the policy direction of the Governor Amaechi administration, particularly in the areas of health care delivery and education, noting that government would continue to intensify efforts at developments that are people-based and aimed at saving not their strength but also resources available to them, by making healthcare accessible and affordable.
On the free education programme of the state government for all Rivers children, Mr Abe has this to say, ‘without a good public education, the governor and I will not be where we are today. So what we are simply doing is to remember other indigent children who are what we were years ago as the less-privileged in society, who the Diete-Spiff administration did not forget. We too will not forget them, so that tomorrow they can stand out to be counted as we are today.
He, however, thanked the Governor for the honour done him, and assured that he would justify the confidence reposed in him by giving the best of his ability to render quality service to the people.
