Ex-Commissioners Applaud Mrs Gilbert-Nte
The swearing in of Hon. Emilia Gilbert-Nte as the first female Executive Chairman in Rivers State has been described as a new dawn for the people of Andoni Local Government Area.
The former Commissioner for Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deacon Clapton Ogolo stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after a special reception held in honour of Mrs. Gilbert-Nte in Port Harcourt.
Deacon Ogolo noted that the ascension of Hon. Gilbert-Nte as the Andoni Council Chairman was an act of providence and a reflection of the yearnings of political stakeholders to accord women equal opportunities in political leadership.
He described the new council boss as a transparent, honest and hardworking women mobiliser who had proved her mantle while serving as the Vice Chairman of the Council.
Also speaking, former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Robert Elleh and other prominent sons and daughters of the area expressed gratitude to God and the Governor of the State Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for the successful swearing in and called on the people of Andoni to rally round the new chairman so as to fast-track development in the area.
The stakeholders expressed confidence in the leadership of Hon. Gilbert-Nte and prayed God to grant her the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the area.
Responding, Hon. Gilbert-Nte thanked the people for the honour done her and promised to work for the interest of all Andoni people.
She announced the take off of the youth and women empowerment training programme which is going on in Ngo, headquarters of Andoni Local Government Council and advised interested sons and daughters of Andoni to enroll in the programme which is designed to create job opportunities and improve the living standard of the people of the area.
Meanwhile, Hon. Gilbert-Nte has announced Wednesday (11 th August) for the commissioning ceremony of some projects initiated under her leadership.
According to the chairman, the speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly Rt.
Hon. Tonye Harry and the wife of the state Governor Dame Judith Amaechi are expected to grace the occasion.
