RSG Plans New NUJ Secretariat House
The Rivers State Government has promised to build a new secretariat complex for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari who disclosed this to The Tide correspondent at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa said Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has assured that he would do something to provide a befitting secretariat complex for the union.
According to the information and communications commissioner, the state chief executive sympathised with the union over the destruction done to its secretariat along Moscow Road and promised to renovate or build a new one for the union.
She said the state Ministry of Housing will soon come out with a plan for the project as it was going through due process.
On the land allocated to the union at the Old GRA, Mrs Semenitari herself, a journalists by profession and member of the union wondered why it had remained undeveloped for many years.
She expressed surprise that the certificate of occupancy (Cof O) issued to the union by the government of Rivers State could not be produced for verification, pointing out that it was her desire to embark on a new secretariat project on that land.
A heavy rain storm in April partially deroofed the NUJ state secretariat building in Port Harcourt
