Report Threat To Peace: Islamic Leader Tasks Moslems
The Vice President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Ahmed R.T. Okiri has called on Moslems in Rivers State and South South to report any threat to peace in the region to the Authorities.
Alhaji Okiri who said this at the Jumat service to commemorate this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Port Harcourt Central Mosque said that the peace bequeathed to this nation by our heroes must be guided jealously.
He said that the Remembrance Day should be seen as “a challenge to those of us who are alive to build on their supreme sacrifices by contributing our quota towards a better country for us and future generations”.
According to him, “the best tribute we can pay them, is for both the government and the people to do all in their power to avoid the problems or crisis that forced them to sacrifice their precious lives.
“The government can achieve this by eliminating injustice, poverty and corruption in all aspects and levels of its governance.
This, in turn will enthrone unity and peace without which there will be no progress and prosperity”.
The Rivers State Islamic leader also called for a special welfare programmes for families of fallen heroes, while the welfare of serving rank and file of the military, police and paramilitary forces be given adequate attention.
