RSG Hands Over Duplex To Okilo’s Family
The Rivers State government has said that the vision of the second republic governor of the old Rivers State, Late Chief (Dr) Melford Okilo will not be allowed to die.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said this while handing over a duplex built by the state government to Okilo’s family.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Hon. Magnus Abe said that the late Okilo had left an indelible impression on the sand of time, on the governance of the old Rivers State and the entire Niger Delta.
He said that the project which was conceived even before the late politician’s death will act as a reminder of what he stood for during his lifetime as governor of the state.
The governor also commended the Okilo’s burial committee for doing a good job and assured the family that the government ensure that the house is well furnished.
In her speech, the widow of the late politician, Mrs Felicia Okilo thanked Rt. Hon. Amaechi for his concern for the family during and after the burial of Chief (Dr) Melford Okilo.
Mrs Okilo attributed the successful burial of the former governor to the effort of Rt Hon. Amaechi and stressed the need for security to be beefed up in the area as well as regular electricity supply.
In her address of welcome, the chairman of the Okilo burial committee Rivers State, Ms Madeline Tador described the project as the brainchild of the state government as the initial arrangement was the renovation of the late politician’s old building.
Ms Tador who is also the General Manager of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation thanked members of the committee for their commitment towards the realization of the project.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
