Some repentant militants in Port Harcourt have vowed to surrender their arms as well as carry out campaigns against militancy.
A clergyman in the Niger Delta area, Bishop Friday Nwator, who has a pet programme of rehabilitating repentant militants in the Niger Delta made the declaration recently at the Government House Chapel, Port Harcourt when a three-man delegation from the Presidency led by Dr (Mrs) Awosika, came to assess the level of rehabilitation embarked upon by Bishop Friday Nwator.
Bishop Nwator said that his group was ready and willing to go to the creeks to sensitise the militants against their negative tendencies.
According to him, some of the repentant militants had regretted their past activities and pledged to tow the path of rectitude and peace.
Bishop Nwator further stated that militancy and other social vices could be stemmed in the bud by carrying out enlightenment campaigns in primary and secondary schools in the Niger Delta area.
In her remarks, Dr (mrs) Awosika, said she was optimistic that despite the challenges of today, “one day, we would all be proud to be identified as Nigerians”, adding that she was hopeful that things would change for the better.
