Rivers Spends N47m On Physically Challenged

The Rivers State Government has dolled out the sum of N47,000,000 as Scholarships to 94 physically challenged students of Rivers origin in higher institutions. A break down of the figure shows that each of the affected student got the sum of N500,000 each for one year. Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries from the Rivers Stated University of Science and Technology (RSUST) and university of Port Harcourt, the Chairman of the State Scholarship Board Dr. Elechi Amadi said that the gesture is inline with the State Governor’s policy of reaching out to all youths in the state. “It is the wish of his Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi to reach out to old Rivers Youths, especially those who are in the institution’s he said. Dr. Amadi who was represented by the Chairman Scholarship Committee in the board, Dr. Sam Wodi urged the students to make the best use of the opportunities to improve themselves. He urged them to see the gesture as a morale booster in their academic pursuit pointing out that disability should never be a hindrance in their bid to excel in life. At the university of Port Harcourt, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Bernard Efuvwere said that uniport is one of the highly rated universities in the country. He said that the management is not resting on its oars to make the institution one of the best in Africa and the world. Responding, Mr. Alex Neke one of the beneficiaries from the University of Port Harcourt thanked the state government and the board for the gesture, stressing that the scheme would help them to excel in their academic concern.
