RSG Tasks LG Bosses On Flooding
The Rivers State Gov
ernment has urged the caretaker committee chairmen of the 23 local government areas to step up their sensitisation campaign on the impending flooding of the state.
Commissioner for Environment, Professor (Mrs) Roseline Konya said this during a meeting with Caretaker Chairmen of Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas in her office in Port Harcourt.
The meeting was convened by the commissioner to see to ways of mitigating the impacts of the impending flood in parts of the state.
Professor Konya also explained that the government was poised to find solution to the problem of flooding in the state.
She however frowned at the poor level of enlightenment and sensitisation in the rural areas, adding that the state government will ensure proactive measures through sensitisation and enlightenment of communities affected by flooding.
She also said that, the introduction of flood control is not only for the flood prone local government areas.
Representatives of the three caretaker chairmen who spoke to newsmen later described the meeting as timely and pledged their readiness to embark on aggressive enlightenment campaign in their respective communities.
