Ogun Dumps Cargo Airport Project
The cargo airport project that was initiated by the past administration in Ogun State may not be completed as scheduled following its exclusion from the 2012 budget.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mrs Oluwande Muoyo at the 2012 budget analysis forum said that the administration would rather focus on infrastural development, especially the road network, before embarking on the cargo airport project.
The Economic Adviser to the Ogun State governor, Rotimi Adewunmi also noted that the airport project that was not captured under the current budget was not considered a priority, given the parlous state of infrastructure in the state and the need to rebuild the state’s economy, under the approved economic masterplan.
He explained that the state government would focus on the rehabilitation of existing roads and constructions of new ones to promote economic activities before any consideration would be given to the cargo airport project.
He said that the administration at its inceptions last year, assessed various projects inherited from the previous government and concluded that the airport project sited within Iperu, Ilishan and Ishara communities would only attract budgetary allocation after general issues contained in the economic masterplan would have been addressed.
Muoyo who delivered the budget analysis at the forum said priority projects include affordable qualitative education, healthcare delivery, agriculture and industrialisation.
Others are housing, urban renewal, employment generation and rural development.
