US Don Hails Amaechi On Education
The Chairman, Faculty of Theology, Duquesne University Pittsburgh, USA, Prof. George Worgul (Jnr), has described the achievements recorded in the education sector by the Rivers State government as a credible accomplishment that should be showcased to the rest of the world.
Prof. Worgul gave the indication, last Wednesday, when he was conducted round some new primary and secondary schools in the state by Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as part of his visit to Port Harcourt.
The University Don, who expressed satisfaction with the huge investments in the education sub-sector, said, “Rivers people should be proud of this administration for the provision of these facilities”, noting that “it takes only a man who knows the importance of education to carry out this massive investment in the sector.
Prof Worgul said the model schools showed a governor’s commitment to make education a strong priority, stressing that the effort of the Rivers State Government represented an important element in the future of Rivers children as it would give equal opportunity to every child to be educated.
Earlier, in an interactive session with the pupils and teachers of state primary school, Akpajo, the State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi assured them that the state government would hurriedly construct more model schools in the area to combat challenges of over population in schools in the area.
Governor Amaechi, who arrived the school with his guest in an unscheduled visit, expressed delight that 50 pupils of the school had so far been taken to the completed model school, Akpajo, from the old one, reassured the pupils that they would be provided with new schools soon, having been given free uniforms and books in line with the free education policy of the state.
The governor explained that the target of government was to ensure that a teacher teaches a class of 25 pupils or students in compliance with recognised standards so as to promote proper pupil-teacher relationship.
The unscheduled inspection tour took the governor to the State Independent Power Project at Afam in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Songhai Farm, and the Model Secondary schools in Tai and Eleme Local Government Areas respectively.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
