I Was Offered N200m For Suit Against Amaechi –Princewill
Two and half years after, the former governorship candidate of the Action Congress Party (AC), Prince Tonye Princewill, has revealed how Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s detractors and opponents offered him N200 million to continue his case against Amaechi.
Princewill, who made this revelation in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said the gesture was against his political and ideological principles.
He stated that he saw that Amaechi’s interest was for the interest of the state and people, hence he withdrew his suit against Amaechi from the tribunal.
Princewill further revealed that he was tempted with the mouthwatering offer twice and that he rejected the offer twice.
According to him, “after the election, I was also offered the sum of N150 million to drop my case against Mr Celestine Omehia, I refused. After the Supreme Court verdict, I was again asked to accept N200million to continue the case with a promise that they will provide documents and facts to prove that the election was rigged”
The former AC leader who left his former party in a controversial manner noted that he refused those offers because those fighting Governor Amaechi were not doing so for the overall interest of the people and the state, hence his decision to withdraw his case against Amaechi.
He regretted that political officeholders have become demi-gods rather than servants, explaining that he ventured into politics to serve and improve the lot of the people of the state.
The Kalabari-born politician, who said he was on political break after dumping the AC said that he was not in a hurry to make a decision even though majority of his supporters have enjoined him to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and help Amaechi develop Rivers State.
He urged the state governor to ensure the completion of projects he initiated and put them into use rather that listening to sycophants who may want to cajole him into running for second tenure.
“If he completes these projects, provide facilities for them, the people would want him back in 2011. For me, 2011 is still far for him to take any decision”, Princewill stated.
Princewill who scored Amaechi a little above average commended the governor but appealed that the schools and hospitals built need qualified personnel while the roads need maintenance.
