Atiku Cautions FG On Post Amnesty
Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has charged those entrusted with the implementation of the post amnesty programme to forge ahead with the process in the interest of peace and unity of the nation.
Atiku who stated this on Thursday while speaking to journalists shortly on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa to commission the Rivers State Action Congress Party (AC) secretariat warned that the ill health of the President Umaru Yar’Adua should not stand as a barrier to the implementation of the post amnesty programme.
The former Vice President explained that prior to the president’s ill health, all relevant guidelines have been put in place in respect of the post amnesty programme stating that without a permanent solution to the fundamental issues of the Niger Delta, the post amnesty programme may fail.
According to him, the fundamental issue of Niger Delta is addressing the problems of development, job creation and building of structures among other things.
“Without the permanent resolution of the Niger Delta problem, there cannot be peace in the region. It is more than amnesty. There are a number of fundamental issues that have affected the region in past 50 years and those issues must be addressed”.
“What is amnesty without infrastructure, no water, no health and standard of living of the people is not improved”.
Alhaji Atiku however, said the process of the mega party is still on and that by January 2010 it would be fully integrated, stating that the parley will be a viable opposition party in future.
He further noted that the objective of the party will be National Interest before individual interest and said they are looking for a patriotic persons but denied that the party is yet to have a leader.
Earlier, the Rivers state leader of AC Prince Princewill while welcoming the former Vice President, Commended Alhaji Atiku for his efforts in leading the party to greater height.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
