Court Adjourns Case Of Rape Till Nov 23
A Lagos Magistrate’s Court has adjourned till November 23, mention in the case of rape preferred against a 28-year old man, Issa Mohammed.
Issa Mohammed was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly raping a nine-year old girl (name withheld) in their residence at 60, Ogunmiyiwa Street, Itire, Lagos, where he lives with the victim’s parents.
The incident happened at about 9.00am when other residens had gone to work. Mohammed was said to have stayed back to carry out the act.
The Tide gathered that the accused lured the victim into his room and removed her underwear and raped her.
The act came to the open when blood started flowing from the victim’s private part after the rape.
The victim reported the matter to her mother and on checking her private part, she discovered that the accused had actually had carnal knowledge of her daughter. The mother raised an alarm and went to the police station to lodge a complaint.
The accused was arrested and charged to Cele Magistrate’s Court for rape. The offence he committed, police prosecutor said, is contrary to Sections 516 and 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
When the charge was read to him, the accused pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety in the like sum.
The court also ordered that the address of the surety must be verified while he must show evidence of payment of tax.
