Community Leader Cautions Against Disunity, Crisis
The Chairman, Onu-Omopi Cultural Organisation, Chief Geoffrey U. Amadi, has called on the people of Omopi, Omerelu, in Ikwerre Local Government Area, to desist from acts capable of fomenting trouble, but should rather think more of things that would bind them together as a family for the interest of peace and unity.
Amadi made the call while fielding questions from newsmen on the inauguration of the Forum of Ex-Chairmen of Onu-Omopi in Omerelu Community at the weekend.
He said unity was needed in any given environment of serious-minded people who are desirous of growth and development.
According to him, no society riddled with envy and strife has fared better, and always ended in disaster and stagnant in development.
He noted that crisis was no longer in an option to achieve peace, but a hasty way of encouraging reprisal attacks.
The Community Leader, reasoned that if the people could think more on unity and peace, the era of police arrest and ligications will be a thing of the past.
“I think we, at our various levels, have one role or the other to play. If we consider local arbitration and other alternative means of dispute resolution, there will be paece in every community”, he said.
He noted that peace, if achieved at all quarters, will also help in the long clamour for prison decongestion all over the Country.
In response, the Chairman of the Forum, Chief Samuel N. Chukwu, who described the initiative as an erudite idea, assured of plans to move the community forward through the committee.
The elated Chief, a retired Head Master, also promised to do everything within his reach to ensure that the aim of the group is sustained with meaningful achievements recorded.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the body, Chief Lawrence O. Opkara, said they will add colour to the present Onu-Omopi administration.
Opkara, who is also a retired Principal, lauded the Onu-Omopi Chairman for the opportunity given them to serve in such capacity and added that they will not fail in the given task.
The Tide gathered that the Onu-Omopi Cultural Organisation has contributed in no little measure in the promotion of peace and unity in the community.
