Group Tasks Traditional Rulers On Insecurity
As part of the ongoing as
sessment of the threat and effect of insecurity in the country, the National Risk Association Team, has called for synergy with traditional institutions to combat insecurity in Rivers State.
The National Risk Assessment Team was speaking at the palace of the Eze Oha Apara, His Royal Majesty, Eze Gift Johnson in Rumuigbo in Obio-Akpor during its maiden visit to Rivers State.
Leader of the team, Roselyn Izuagba in her address said the assessment was in line with the recommendation of international agencies and decried the level of insecurity in the state.
“The committee was inaugurated by the Attorney-General of the Federation to carry out this assessment. And in doing this assessment, there are several models. The Federal Government chose that of the World Bank and other international bodies which will also look at our report and then read it”, she said.
“The economic gains of the country lie in Rivers State. The power of this country and whatever thing we enjoy comes from this part of Nigeria. This is where we have our oil reserves. That is why we came to Rivers state.
“We do not want anything to happen to the common wealth. Rivers State is very important to the development of the country, that is why we need to come and join hands with our traditional rulers to pass the message of non-violence to the people, she added.
In his response, His Royal Majesty, Eze Gift Johnson attributed the level of insecurity in the state to marginalisation.
While calling on the Federal Government to go beyond re-organising the Niger Delta amnesty programme, Eze Johnson appreciated the National Risk Assessment Team for bringing the message of peace to the grassroots.
He also called on the federal government to try and re-integrate those who were shut out of the amnesty programme.
