Senatorial Aspirant Makes Case For Benin Kingdom
A senatorial aspirant
in Edo South Senatorial District, Mr Irabor Omokpea, said his interest in politics was to ensure that Benin kingdom was accorded its rightful place in the country.
Omokpea said this when he played host to members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin recently.
Our correspondent reports that Omokpea is an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo.
He said the kingdom which had been part of the country’s historical development deserved a proper recognition from the Federal Government.
The advertising guru urged Nigerians, with experience in the private sector, not to shy away from active participation in politics.
He said their non-participation in active politics would enable “inferior persons” end up governing the people.
“I am here to contribute my quota to national development and also to inspire those who run from politics to participate in it.
“We have had good people representing us, but if we have better people, why settle for the good ones, it will be better to go for the best.
“My international experience and network have adequately prepared me for the task.
“There is need to maximise our potential for the good of the people,” he said.
He expressed regret that the Edo South Senatorial District had not had a quality representation in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
”Quality of my representation will be linked to our voices at the national stage. We have not heard or had a strong voice at the national stage.
