…Assures Partnership With Navy
Rivers State Government has reaffirmed its determination to partner with the Nigeria Navy and other security agencies in embarking on development projects and improving security situations in the state.
Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said this while laying the foundation stone for the construction of 50 units of studio flats for Naval officers and ratings at the Navy Ship Pathfinder base in Ruuolumeni town, near Port Harcourt.
He explained that the State Government undertook the investment because it appreciated the contributions the Navy has been making towards maintenance of security in and around the State.
“It is very easy to take things for granted”, he observed, “but if we have to be frank, we need to recognize that the officers of the Navy, working in collaboration with members of other security agencies, have done a lot to ensure that we have a peaceful atmosphere the populace is enjoying today”.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. George Feyii, Rt. Hon. Amaechi said government would not take the role of security agencies for granted and appealed to the contractor handling the project to deliver within 90 days as promised and to specification imploring the officers not to miuse the facilities.
In a speech, the Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral olufemi ogunjimi, said the project would go a long way in addressing the accommodation challenges faced by officers and ratings of the command and thanked the state Government for the gesture.
