RSG To Arrest Child Hawkers, Nov
Rivers State Government says it will start the arrest of children hawking during school hours from next month.
The State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon. Joe Philip Poroma, stated Tuesday at a press briefing in his office in Port Harcourt.
Poroma who lamented the high rate of hawking on the streets of Port Harcourt said through the children, the government would arrest and prosecute those that send them, using the child right law of the state as instrument of law.
He called on parents to send their children to school since basic education is free in the state and urged those that abuse the rights of children to stop or be ready to face the wrath of the law.
On the issue of street beggars, Hon. Poroma said between September and October, his ministry has removed more than 110 beggars and lunatics from the streets even as it repatriated the non-indigenes back to their states.
He assured that the ministry will continue the raiding until Port Harcourt streets are cleansed of beggar to and lunatics.
