Consumers Decry Unstable Electricity Supply
Electricity consumers in
Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area of Lagos State have decried the unstable power supply to the community by the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).
The President of Amuwo-Odofin/FESTAC Landlords Association, Chief Ade-Owas Owabumuwa, told newsmen recently in Lagos that consumers were not enjoying value for their money. He said that residents in the area hardly had power supply for up to five minutes in a day and would no longer accept outrageous bills the company was giving them.
The association president appealed to the IKEDC not to disconnect electricity to households in the area until power supply was fully restored.
“I implore the IKEDC to put the intended disconnection of residents’ electricity on hold until it is able to overhaul the power system,” he said.
Owabumuwa said that prepaid meter was the only way out of the outrageous bills being distributed to the residents by IKEDC.
He said that the analogue meters were not ‘pocket-friendly’ and were not giving consumers value for their money.
In her reaction, Ms Olubukola Ojurongbe, General Manager, Customer Service, IKEDC, appealed to the residents to exercise patience with the new power sector investors.
Ojurongbe said that the management of IKEDC was also unhappy with the current over-estimated billing which had led to the unfriendly relationship between the customers and the company.
She promised the residents that adequate attention would be given to the area to ensure power supply was restored.
“I sincerely appreciate the residents for their various observations and complaints and we have noted them.
“On the issue of prepaid meters, I cannot guarantee you that the company will give out over 4,000 prepaid meters,
“We don’t even have up to 2,000 prepaid meters in our store presently, but we will forward their request to the management to look into it,” she said.
