Rivers Workers Lament Burnt ICT Centre
Civil servants in Rivers State have called on the state government to restore the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre that was destroyed by fire last year.
They said the ICT Centre had so far assisted in training them in computer and ICT application.
Speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt last Wednesday, a respondent, Chinua Amadi said the damage done at the ICT Centre was affecting them negatively as they had almost forgotten the little knowledge they acquired during the training.
He explained that the ICT Centre was important to all, especially civil servants who receive free training from the centre.
Amadi said government should hurry and refurbish the centre, adding that it was one of the greatest achievements of the present administration.
Other users of the centre like press secretaries, said they now find it difficult to do most of their jobs since the place was burnt down.
They pointed out that they do most of their jobs outside, which, according to them was cumbersome.
They maintained that urgent steps should be taken towards the rehabilitation of the project, so as to keep alive its aim of establishment.
The Tide learnt that the ICT Centre controlled by the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Engr Goodliffe Nmekini has trained over 300 civil servants and numerous students since its inception sometime in 2010.
Meanwhile, a source from the S.A’s office, said government was planning to restore the burnt ICT Centre in the nearest future.
