PHALGA Boss Warns Against Illegal Parks
Henceforth, companies setting up illegal motor parks in Port Harcourt would face the full wrath of the law.
This warning was handed down by the mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Mr. Chimbiko Akorolo during a meeting with transport operators in Port Harcourt recently.
Mr. Akorolo said the council would also take drastic action against reckless drivers, adding that a monitoring team would be set-up to checkmate the activities of motor park operators.
He said this action was as a result of the activities of transport companies that had contributed to uncontrollable traffic congestions in Port Harcourt City.
He however directed all transport companies to collect registration forms from the council to ensure that the exercise was successful, and for proper identification and documentation of such transport companies and their owners operating in the city.
The PHALGA boss further noted that the council would introduced passengers manifest scheme that would contain the name of the passenger, address, next-of-kin, sex, phone numbers and destination, and also called on such companies to comply with the directive to avoid embarrassment.
Mr. Akorolo hinted that most transport company owners would benefit from the mega parks when completed by the state government and thanked them for their presence.
In his respond, Mr. Brilliant Amadi, who represented the Rivers Indigenous Transport Association assured of their co-operation and warned his members to avoid reckless driving and picking of passengers along the roads as any one caught would face the music.
Mr. Amadi thanked the mayor for his timely advice as it would help decongest traffic on the roads in Port Harcourt City.
