We’re Set To Design Rural Telecom Programmes – NCC
The executive Vice
Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Danbatta, has said that his organisation would design programmes that would provide telecommunication access to rural communities.
He made this disclosure during the 4th National Council on Communication technology meeting recently in Kaduna, The Tide online source learnt.
According to our source, Danbatta was quoted to have special programmes aimed at the unserved and and underserved communities in the country.
The NCC boss listed the communities as rural areas and isolated population, where communication services are not targeted specifically.
We have recently identified 207 access gap, which we are trying to block and these access gaps are blocked by deploying infrastructure that will allow these Nigerians telecom services”, he said.
On the issue of cybercrime, he said that the commission would not hesitate to protect the country’s cyberspace by putting constant measures in place that would ensure safe cyber space.
Such measures he said, would also guarantee the privacy and security of Nigerians in the cyber world.
He also called on policy makers to ensure that they provide those corporate policies that would strengthen the country’s cyber space.
“The policy makers must at the same time, while deploying the power of ICT to leverage on the required diversification of the economy, put measures in place that will make cyber space safe”, he said. It was also learnt that the NCC boss had set up a committee that would arrange how the commission’s spectrum licensing process would be returned.
This as it was further revealed, would enable it kick-start a fresh process devoid of rancor for awards of spectrum licences such as 2.6 GH, 70mHz, among others.
