RSG Harps On Importance Of Youths To Rivers Dev
The Rivers State Government has attributed the various contributions and support from the youths across the state as responsible ingredients for the success recorded in the development of the state.
The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon Chisom Kenneth Gbali, stated this when he led the management team of the state Ministry of Youth to Obio/Akpor Local Government Council headquarter in continuation of the Ministry’s advocacy campaign tagged “A Preparedness Plan for Rivers Youth Paradigm from Unemployability to Resourcefulness”.
Gbali noted that Rivers Youths bear enormous moral responsibility to work with the State Government through the Ministry of Youth Development and their various Local Government Councils to reduce the high level of unemployment among the youths in order to fast-track and sustain development and progress being achieved in the state.
The Commissioner urged the youths to take concrete steps to cue into the various policies embarked by the Ministry to enable them overcome their limitation and contribute their own quota to the socio-economic development of the state.
According to him, youths possess different talents that can help accelerate development of the state.
He charged them to key into the leadership initiatives in the state, promising that Rivers Youth will be trained under his watch as the Commissioner for Youth Development in the state.
He explained that the training would be in three key areas: ICT, Artificial intelligent (AI) Vocational and Entrepreneurship training which would be supported with starter packs.
The Commissioner charged the youth of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area to desist from drug abuse, illegal crude refining, cybercrime and kidnapping and focus on how to improve themselves through acquisition of skills that will make them become independent and earn themselves multiple streams of income in order to face the economic challenges in the country.
Gbali commended the Obalga council chairman Barr. George Ariolu for human capital development recorded by his administration in the area of vocational training and also his bold steps taken to encourage Obio/Akpor youth to actualize their dreams academically through the provision of post graduate school grants.
Earlier, in his speech, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Hon. Barr. George Ariolu, commended the Commissioner and his team from the Ministry for the visit, saying the visit was timely and will help to encourage, educate and enlighten the youth of the area on the need to be self-reliant.
Ariolu averred that the council had trained more than 200 youths in fork lifting and as crane operators which has enabled them gain employment in some of the multinational companies in the state.
“More than one hundred youths has also been billed to be trained in trucking”, he said.
Also Speaking, the Council’s Special Adviser for Youths and Sports, Hon. Newman Ogbonda, commended the visiting Commissioner and his team for the visit and assured him that Obio/Akpor youths are ever ready to be trained in order to be self-reliant.
